Central American Wood Turtle Distribution: Southern Nicaragua to northern Costa Rica. Empire Stock: WC exported from Nicaragua. Size: Up to 20 cm. Habitat: Moist areas near water. Diet: I feed mine earthworms, fish, Mazuri Freshwater Turtle, romaine, strawberries, bananas, cantaloupe. Sexing: Males have longer thicker tails and tend to be smaller in size. Breeding: I have witnessed them copulating both in water and on land. Temperature-dependent Sex Determination. Notes: I have observed them scraping the upper layer of soil around with their forelimbs during rain and have seen them find worms this way. |
