Cuora amboinensis
Southeast Asian Box Turtle DISTRIBUTION: East India, Burma, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Philippines. EMPIRE STOCK: WC exported from Indonesia. SIZE: Up to 20 cm. HABITAT: They inhabit marshes, ponds and rice fields. DIET: Omnivorous tending towards herbivorous. I feed Mazuri Freshwater Turtle, fish, romaine, aquatic plants, Mazuri Tortoise, cantaloupe, bananas, mangos, strawberries. SEXING: Males have concave plastrons and longer thicker tails. BREEDING: Clutch size is 1 or 2 eggs. Males are very aggressive breeders, and if the enclosure is too small, may need to be removed periodically. NOTES: The most commonly seen Cuora species in captivity. There are currently 4 subspecies. |
