Chrysemys picta picta
Eastern Painted Turtle DISTRIBUTION: Nova Scotia to Georgia with large areas of intergradation with the Midland Painted in the north and with the Southern Painted in Alabama. EMPIRE STOCK: WC. SIZE: Up to 18 cm. HABITAT: Soft bottomed with slow moving water. Ponds and marshes with abundant vegetation and basking sites. DIET: Painted Turtles are omnivores. The young are more carnivorous and become more herbivorous as adults. I feed Mazuri Freshwater Turtle, fish, earthworms, and a variety of water plants and vegetables. SEXING: Males have elongated foreclaws and tend to be smaller than females. BREEDING: Well documented. Clutch sizes range up to 20 eggs. Temperature-dependent Sex Determination. NOTES: |
