Chelodina reimanni
Reimann's Snake-necked Turtle DISTRIBUTION: West Papua New Guinea (Indonesia). EMPIRE STOCK: WC and CB from the Denver Zoo. SIZE: Records of shell lengths vary from 20 cm to 35 cm. HABITAT: They inhabit shallow pools in the wild. DIET: Fish, shrimp, snails, Mazuri turtle and Aquamax 500 & 600, pinkie rats. I start hatchlings on bloodworms before moving onto chopped shrimp, smaller fish and pellets. SEXING: Males have slightly longer thicker tails. BREEDING: They may lay multiple clutches a year. NOTES: They may aestivate. Don't appear to prey on fish in the wild, but feed on mollusks, Insects and Crayfish. Hatchlings seem to do better given good hiding spots in the water. What is sold as Reimann's right now will likely be broken into subspecies or separate species in time. Match up similar looking animals to avoid producing what may turn out to be hybrids in the future. |
