Amarillo TX Page 2
In a May of 2010 trip the weather was warm enough to try some more Amarillo herping. Unfortunately, I came down with something within a day of arriving. Nevertheless, I soldiered on. The first foray was to Lake Meredith. |
Everything seemed to be in bloom and my illness could have started as an allergic reaction to pollen from some plant. Spider Milkweed Asclepias asperula |
Lace Hedgehog Cactus Echinocereus reichenbachii |
Trailing Krameria Krameria lanceolata |
A number of Ornate Box Turtles Terrapene o. ornata were spotted in the Lake Meredith area. They were all beautiful like this little girl. |
Then we did some herping around Amarillo. The first finds were some Woodhouse's Toads Bufo w. woodhousii. |
I also found a nice Texas Horned Lizard Phrynosoma cornutum. Probably a common find, but something I really wanted to see. |
Some night herping yielded more toads and a number of New Mexico Blind Snakes Leptotyphlops dissectus, listed in some sources as a subspecies of L. dulcis. |
And a Plains Blackhead Snake Tantilla nigriceps. |
