Scincella lateralis

Ground Skink

Florida Distribution: entire state.

Identification: up to 12.7 cm. Belly white or yellowish, dark stripes no light stripes.

Very common in leaf litter. This one and a number of others can be found around our Redfoot Tortoise houses. Like  the native toads they are probably taking advantage of the insects drawn by tortoise food and waste.

You can see a hint of the yellowish belly.
