Eastern Hognose Snake

Florida Distribution: entire state.

Identification: up to 80 cm. Upturned rostral scale though not as upturned as the Southern Hognose. Ventral scales on tail lighter than belly scales.

Unlike the Southern Hognoses that  I have handled, this species seems more ready to fake aggression. Such as flattening  its neck like a cobra, hissing, and feigning  strikes with a closed mouth. If this doesn't work they will play dead.

A small one, but it still act like its bad to the bone.
