Agkistrodon piscivorus conanti
Florida Cottonmouth
VENOMOUS
Florida Distribution: entire state. Identification: up to almost 2 M. Triangular head and heavy bodied snake. Pits are visible between nostrils and eyes. Adult specimens in Florida tend to be very dark, even black. More so than other snakes this species is unlikely to be amused by attempts to handle. It will strike readily if it feels threatened and its venom is toxic sometimes fatal to humans. However, like most animals if left alone it poses no threat.
