Green Sea Turtle

Florida distribution: found in the coastal waters around Florida. Most nesting in Florida occurs from Brevard south.

Identification: up to 150 cm. Single pair of prefontal scales on head. Four costal scutes and the first does not touch the nuchal.

All sea turtles are Federally protected. This protection covers the turtles, their eggs, and remains. If you find a distressed or dead turtle you can report it to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission  1-888-404-3922.

You can see there are only 4 costal scutes on either side and the first does not touch the nuchal scute.

In this picture you can see the single pair of large prefrontal scales between the eyes and that the first costal does not touch the nuchal.

This is an older animal and you can see again that there are four costals on each side, the first does not touch the nuchal, and there are two large prefrontal scales on head.
